The Escatones surf back to Austin! Sun. 10/23 @ Red Eyed Fly

theescatones_redeyedfly23oct11-sm.png

Psychedelic surf/garage trio The Escatones return to Texas to celebrate the recently released "The Ghost of High Island", apparently named after High Island, Texas, a town known for its supernatural haunts. The Tulsa and Stillwater, Oklahoma (via Galveston & Houston, TX and Detroit, MI) based rockers return to Texas to perform a series of shows, which includes a night in Austin with The Cocker SpanielsThe Rich Hands (San Antonio, TX), and Mad Comrades  Sunday, September 23rd at Red Eyed Fly.

After releasing a split EP with Darwin's Finches in April of this year, The Escatones released "Live From High Island" (HomeSkool Rekordz), featuring an eclectic mix of 60s psychedelic, surf, and garage rock, now available on iTunes. The Escatones have been busy, making live appearances at music venues throughout the mid-west US, and on radio and TV, including a June appearance in "The Garage" on WOAI Channel 4 (NBC): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgYVZyUbM_8. Expect a lively set of psychedelic and surf rock sounds – and the possibility an awesome cover of a song by Texas rock icons The Judys.
"Crunk rocker" Sean Padilla performs insightful and (body) moving autobiographical songs solo as The Cocker Spaniels.

San Antonio, Texas based youthful yet old school soulful garage rockers The Rich Hands are currently recording new music, and playing spirited shows across Texas, and return to Austin to support their favorite surf rock band from Oklahoma.

Opening folk/punk duo Mad Comrades are the yin and yang of indie rock in Austin.

Doors open at 7pm, and live music starts at 8pm. Cover: $5 adults/$8 minors

"Dog Days of Summer" Tour In Austin w/ The Cocker Spaniels: Dogbreth, Hello the Mind Control, and Press Forward - Thursday, August 11th

Three of Arizona's finest d-i-y pop and punk bands – Dogbreth, Hello The Mind Control, and Press Forward, have embarked on a U.S. tour, and will be performing in Texas - at historic east Austin's Club 1808, Thursday, August 11, 2011. Local rocker and merrymaker The Cocker Spaniels highlights the touring show.

Dogbreth is quirky yet simpatico Phoenix based Tristan Jemsek and Alex Cardwell, who describe their sound as “pup punk”. Youth culture and individual experiences ranging from the clear to the abstract are reflected brightly in their lyrics, underscored by the upbeat playfulness of each track from the duo’s debut LP released this summer, Chookie.

Hello the Mind Control is what happens when young talented individuals gather and mobilize for the greater good of indie rock. The Mesa ensemble performs danceable pop and surf rock inspired music that is as smart as it is fun. Check out their video, which pays homage to the 80s:

PRESS FORWARD is Samson Swanick and musical guests. Samson’s veracious songwriting, accompanied by a mélange of lo-fi American and Asian folk and d-i-y/punk music and culture, make for entertaining and socially conscientious live music events.

The Cocker Spaniels is renowned Austin, TX resident and party starter Sean Padilla, whose music can be heard on indie rock compilations and mixtapes of DJs and music critics. His ingeniously personal, nothing sacred songwriting, and chamber music instrumentation has produced two stellar full-length albums, which he prodigiously translates into engaging live performances.

Presented by Anti-Gravity, the event dubbed “Dog Days of Summer Tour” in Austin is free, with the exception of a $5 cover for those under 21. Club 1808 is an 18 years or older music venue.
